The Imaginary Friend

The Imaginary Friend

The night was dark, a reflection of a man's soul
Because in his home, three children paid a toll
One in his bedroom, handcuffed to a heater
Breaks and cuts, he surely did mistreat her
The other two mixed with the shoes in the back of a walk in closet
Only one still had eyes that openedΒ
The other's life went forfeit
He danced with joy watching the stars all do the same
This sick monster was in awe, unaware he had lost this game
From outside in the shadows, there was a man who peered in through the shades
And spotted the child that lay dead upon the bed he made
He picked the lock and crawled down the hall and made eye contact with the girl in the wardrobe
Made no noise but gave a gesture and she knew she'd be going home
He snuck up behind the man as heΒ watched the television
With a garrote in his hands he ruined his plans and pulled so hard it made an incisionΒ
The evil man lay dead and the good man went back and untied the child
She was in shock, but somehow she forced out a smile
She asked his name, she thought it was all in her head
He said save your strength, I am your imaginary friend
He brought her outside and sat with her near a street light
Holding her until the source of the sirens was in sight
And as the police and ambulance started to show
He vanished into the night
Off into the darkness looking for more children to save
But there is no one alive that could even say his name
Every time he rescues a kid they always say he said
When they asked his name, he claimed to be their imaginary friend
