The last of their kind...

The last of their kind...

These two had their audience in stitches
They took your heart and made it smile
They were black and white funny species
They were the last if their comedy kind

Everybody grew older but they kept the laughter
Everybody knew the duo who threw down the gauntlet
When the flame came out of your thumb I was literally amazed
For one English and one American it was Hollywood fortune and fame

With the bowler hat's and fashionable ties
From their genius the tears never ran dry
I mean who would ever "come clean" after "laughing gravy"
They got "Blotto" and had "Duck soup"
They even made "Dirty work" at "putting pants on philip"
They were in the "Battle of the century" then ended up in "County hospital"
So as they were "Big business" In "Way out west" in the end it was all "Tit for tat"

Life is better when we're not taking it too serious
Let's have a bit of slapstick and become dreamers
Tomorrow laugh a little, you never know it might just be "A perfect day"

These two had their audience in stitches
They took your heart and made it smile
They were black and white funny species
They were the last if their comedy kind
They were the last of their kind...

Actually, Wayne, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello came well after Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. I think they were in the same vein.
In the late 50's and early 60's you also had Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
The Three Stooges were one of my favorites.
So many great comedic performers have graced our lives, shaken our bellies and come and gone over the years.
This is a wonderfully well written tribute to them all.

Here Here..!! ??? when I was a little boy I used to go down my grandads and he used to have the laurel and hardy box sets, my memories of this kind of humour was with them, my grandad is getting very old now, sadly. And also he is the last of their kind, as in that generation, this poem wasn't definitive to just them, as you say there's a whole host of that kind, but only these I remember thanks to my grandad haha I'm not that old ???☮?

We all have special memories spent with family and friends associated with certain performers and eras in history, Wayne.
I get it, and you're welcome.
