The Last Visit

There's a cottage on an island in a Loch,Β
Soot blackened, crumbling, forlorn, aloft;
Where the heather grows up near waist high
And the sun bleeds out over endless sky,Β
Where a moment can last foreverΒ
And where the eagles fly.Β
And I swear I hear you calling out my nameΒ
As I row the gentle waves across the Loch;Β
And I'm sure I feel your breath upon my neckΒ
In the little wooden boat that slowly rocks.Β
T'was a time gone by, another life ago,Β
When we had seeded all our hopes to grow
And allowed our dreams to stack;
Dream upon dream along life's planned track,Β
But never did we think
That God would snatch you back.Β
And I swear I hear you calling out my name
As I look back across the water past the rocks,Β
Where the ghosts of all my yesterdays remain
In the cottage
On that island
In the Loch.Β

I'm in awe,Β
just brilliant and so sad, a poem we humans all relate to, I weep for you, I weep for the dead and I cry that I'm left behind.
Hi Gerard... Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I am glad you think that as humans we can all relate to it. I love to write things as a little poetic story... To take the mind somewhere else for a short while. The line you picked out is my favourite too... As I was writing, I saw the sun setting (in my head of course) through that vast sky and those words seemed to describe it the best.
Oh, and FYI... People who are left behind do the most good. In my mind, I see THEM as the chosen ones, for they have the most important job of all to do. And that is putting right all the wrong that humans have done and setting the record straight (God is a stickler for that) before they go to heaven. ?
Our Dear Being Me,
Each lovely line, as one reads this amazing work, is like a snowball rolling down a hill, getting larger with every turn.Β I give you a Haiku in return.
Lost loves tear my heart
For they never leave my Soul
Our bond eternal
All our love,
Linda and Larry xxx
That is an amazing Haiku!Β Thank you so much...I am honoured to receive such a beautiful reply. I am so glad that you like this poem. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply. Love to you both x ?
Dramatic. Passionate. Transference of feeling, and emotions, created from the resonance of the terrain with its unique quality, pleasingly, upon the heart, and soul.
In the midst of such harmonious compilations, conveying spirit and message, you discover, more. That, is sure !
What a " genesis " of theraputic connection, blended with truth, and the spells cast by promises surrendered, due to change. Direct from sensation, qualified by magical interpretation.
Truly, a lesson. In love.
Thank-you. For, this.Β :)Β

This reads like a chapter into someone's soul. The boat on the water, that sense of loss and feeling lost. The grief which leaves them drifting, forever looking back. Such a dreamy, eerie write. I loved every word x

Brilliant imagery, very well written. This poem is definitely well rounded in every sense. Both telling a story and immersing the reader in the scene.

Such a beautiful sad narrative. It's a brilliant read. I love your story telling in such an atmospheric way that the reader is glued til the end. I can see now why you wrote a novel. ? Px
Pratibha, I am so sorry I have taken so long to respond to your lovely and amazing comments. Thank you so much for reading! I am pleased you enjoyed this poem. Thank you again ? x
Tina another superb poem and so despondently haunting, a real sense of being alone with nothing to hold onto and look back except memories.
Love the way you conveyed everything so hopelessly of hopes and dreams lie shattered and soulfully in equal measure.
A gemstone of a poem that we all can relate to if we're honest, at sometime in our lives and a love sadly lost.
Superbly well written and touchingΒ and so glad to have found it.
Β
Hi Shaun...I am so very, very sorry that I have not seen your comment until now. Please forgive my horrendously late reply.

The truth of the matter at hand, is that this poem of yours Tina is hauntingly good and I sincerely hope that my opinion as stated is not just seen as some old or corny cliche .. but actually does reflect my objective view of it ..Β
