The Perfect Lake

Growing up I was always around water the beauty of nature
My father would rent a log cabin each year for our summer vacation
He called it the perfect lake where we could swim part way and wade in the cool of heat
My sister and I would catch baby tree frogs and play in the sand
While mom and dad caught a huge stringer of catfish
Frying them up for our evening meal, a heaped pile plate
The lake would shine like a new pair of patten shoes
So peaceful, with mother goose leading her ducklings across
The seven turtles I counted sun bathing across a fallen tree log
The fabulous dragon flies racing by, I wished they would stay for awhile
Our boat ride just at dusk with the bullfrogs croaking their song
Whatever I do in life, it won't be as special as the perfect lake
The perfect times, with my family
And the tree frogs we put in the sink cabin uncovered they shared our bed
What a vacation, what a great memory
Happy Father's Day, may your cancer be in remissiion for a long time to wait
