A Visit Was Required

I took to my bed at 4.15
My temperature raging, my headache, just mean

I lay there freezing and felt so unwell
I needed to rest to break this nasty spell

I woke at 3
You sat on the bed, just looking at me

'Open the window' was all you said
I struggled to leave my soaking yet comfortable bed

I pulled back the curtain and lifted the latch
The air poured in for my fever to snatch

I crawled back under the heavenly sheet
Was this my mother, I now happily greet?

You sat there for a while, nothing was said
When I was a child I remembered you would stroke my head

You did not touch my aching bones
You just sat and listened to my whimpering tones

I woke at 8 with a chill all around
I looked for you from my sickly mound

You were gone, through the window, I suppose
I gathered my thoughts and swiftly rose

My fever has gone, my flesh did not ache
I sat for a while and thought you came here for my sake

Thank you Mum, soft kisses wherever you are.
