Youthful Friendship

We took a walk along the beach
We danced, we laughed, we sung
With timing that no one could teach
Our walk had just begun
Pictures caught a fleeting glance
But missed our life so grand
And all the rest would fade away
Like high tide on the sand
But at the time we had all day
A future all so bright
But how the time just slipped away
And day gave way to night
And as the afternoon slipped by
You said, "soon I must go"
And as a friend I smiled at you
And said, "of course, I know"
