AUTUMN BLOSSOMS: POETESS SARADA WRITES, PANGS OF SEPARATION

Viraha Vedana
(Pangs of Separation)
Dusk has set in
And ..my Kadhalan*
hasn't returned home
All those farmers
who went to plough
their fields have come home
with fresh flowers
of malligai* for their wives
And my cowherd lover
hasn't returned yet
Even before the Rooster
crows ~ coo coo,
he sets out with the cattle
Dusk has set in
And..The king of my heart
hasn't returned home
The priest in the nearby temple
sings the hymns of Krsna
and the Gopis' feelings of Separation
my Kannan hasn't
returned yet
And my Viraha Vedana*
no one knows
You..you and you
who pass by.
please stop a while
listen to me
Go find him
tell him. .his Radha
is lovelorn
pining for his company
And her graceful figure
is now wan and pale...
