Poem -

behind each smile

behind each smile

Behind each smile
Pain hides
Silent screams aren’t hard to find
Especially in the middle of the night
When pain is eating you out inside

No scars on the surface of the skin
To show for the pain that buries within

Yet the pain remains
Feeding each night
Until first light
Another day, another smile to hide behind
Another night, hopefully the last fight

There are many masks to wear in daylight, a smile, a laugh, the hardworking person. I know of these all to well, depression and anxiety can make life unbearable most days.

Thanks for recommending this poem to me. It’s really good! It’s like mine about hiding behind masks.
