Break Through

I borrowed a laugh,
From the joke book in my head.
"That's just pathetic",
They all said.
I am who I am,
So don't hate on me.
One day I'll be someone,
Then they will see.
They made fun of my voice,
And laughed at my hair.
They would all snigger at me,
Stop and just stare.
I got beat down and kicked,
Laughed at and more.
The bruises they hurt,
But inside I hurt to my core.
They called me names,
And hit my face.
I was even choked once,
and sprayed with mace.
I didn't understand,
What I had done.
They all played games,
They all thought it was fun.
They threw a brick at me,
I remembered the blood so red.
So wet and warm,
Running down from my head.
I cried so many tears,
I ran and I hid.
I wasn't very old when it started,
I was just a kid.
They made me feel worthless,
Like it was all my fault.
They all cut me to pieces,
And rubbed in the salt.
I tried to speak out,
But the lump in my throat wouldn't move.
I don't know what I thought it would do,
Or what I thought it would prove.
These people were clever,
They planned and had kit.
They knew what to say and do,
To worm their way out of it.
But now I am stronger,
Today I am here.
They are just nothing,
And I no longer have to live in fear.
