Brick by Brick

Brick by Brick

If I needed to tell you about a worry that has arisen,
Would you listen?

If I turned to you in a time of dismay,
Would you turn me away?

If I knocked at your door, with tears in my eyes,
Would you apologise?

Would you pay attention to what I say?
Would you face me, or hideaway?

I don’t know how I missed the signs
Every time I believed your lines
You just wanted me there
But you didn’t care
I was just a toy to you
Tomorrow, you’ll find someone new

I feel stupid and ashamed
My friends were right, they had you named,
Never again will I be the one
To be hurt like this, I am done

I will not wear my heart on my sleeve
I will be careful now, and not so naive
Brick by brick I will build my wall
Stronger and wider so I cannot fall.
