How Can a Love?

How Can a Love?

How can a love that once was fire
Lay cold in ashes grey?
Where goes the desire
That once enshrouded play?
Gone away, gone away
To where darkness is a place
In which midnight crowns the broken
And where the petals on a rose
All fall from grace.
How can the vows that once were made
Mean nothing now at all?
How can the words all fade
To drift on ending's call
And left to fall? Left to fall
As never ending tears, and
Like the petals from a rose
Promises lay in tatters, now,
At the feet of the deposed.
A rose will turn to briar,
Full thorned by loveless sway,
And truth will out a liar
That sends us on our way
Far away. Far away
To a place of phoney bliss,
In a land where shattered hearts
Speak a soliloquy in tongues
Of loneliness.

A Lonely Journey

Hi Wonderful Being,
That was hauntingly, sadly, achingly, beautiful! That really moved me. I don't get life at all, and I'm terrible at it, but doesn't it seem to be too sad for it's britches??! There's a beautiful poem by Robert Frost called Nothing Gold Can Stay, and in it, this awesome, thinking poet(Robert) theorizes that everything good goes away eventually. I've always strived to discredit that write, but it's very hard to counter. Anyway, sorry for babbling, but, as you can see, your poem made me think, which is great.
Awesome write, my friend!
Hugs,
Matthew.

Hi Matthew!
I will check out Robert Frost's poem! You have me intrigued. Nothing lasts forever, my dear friend, so I guess that goes for the good times as much as the bad... Obviously we won't miss the bad times when they go, but the good times?  Oh how they are indeed missed! I am so glad you like this as I wasn't too sure about posting it at first... But then I thought... Oh why not? So I did. And I am glad you like it ?. And never, ever apologise for babbling x

Hi Being,
Don't ever debate about posting something you've written, because it's from your heart, and it's beautiful(both the heart, and the poetry). Please check out the poem, it rings so true in life. It's actually the poem that Ponyboy loved in The Outsiders, remember that movie? I love Robert Frost poetry. Sorry I have missed some of your poetry, but I've been so busy here, with no staff. I will check them out when it gets back to normal. Take care, you're really great.
Matthew.

Hi Matthew...I read the poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay," and you are right... it is a most beautiful poem. As  a result, I am currently browsing other poems of Robert Frost. Thankyou for telling me about the poem.

My Dear Tina,

This is a real tearjerker, a powerful portrayal of love gone wrong.  Had to pin it!
If I was going to use a song describing it, I would play Whitney Houston's powerful one, "Where Do Broken Hearts Go".

All my love,
Larry xxx

I'm not reading the comments, I'm not overthinking this masterpiece, I'm not going to stare at it, working out it's meaning, I'd rather fall asleep just now, now after reading it, now after reading it.

I love this poem BM because IV often wondered the same. I now think love ( between the sexes ) is often illusion based on the physical. Because to me, if this thing called love existed in the way we think it does, then by its very meaning, it cannot die. I think occasionally two soul mates get it right and fuse forever but for most of us it's lust and like in disguise...or I may just be cynical....no...I am cynical...lol ..and to back.up my theory??? Far lower numbers of wrinkles falling in love than young fresh beautiful 20 year olds!!?... I do think 'love' exists ....and love is a beautiful thing when it is a love between the souls rather than the physical. Christ I hope Cherie doesn't read this, ???....and yes, I have had my fair share of passionate love...which is probably what forms my cynicism now, lol....sorry for the ramble, great work...hugs ?

Marion, I think we that we think alike on this!

Because to me, if this thing called love existed in the way we think it does, then by its very meaning, it cannot die.

This is exactly the thought behind this poem. I have always pondered this. If you are loved...then you are loved...forever...because they said their vows with you. Love is love, isn't it? Well, no, apparently it is not!  (As you have discussed in your comment).  Apparently forever is limited and nowhere near as long as what we have been lead to believe.

Maybe I am just cynical too. I do still wish for a forever love though. I wish on every star I first see at night (and one or two others) that I will find love again... a forever love (and I give a list of ...what I believe to be..suitable candidates...to give them a little help, you know...in case they were wondering who to send me). That's an awful lot of stars I've wished on, now...and still nothing ?

Thank you so much for reading my poem and for leaving an interesting and extremely relatable comment ?x

Wow this is so tragically beautiful to read. You are an exceptional writer.
I love the use of the rose as metaphor to explain heartache and especially those thorns!! Honestly as somber as this is I could just read this over and over again it is that stunning and elegant. ?

Good evening Being (I’m sorry I don’t know your name!)
what a strong but ultimately heartbreaking poem of a love that has turned so toxic ( I hope it’s not based on personal experience) . A great flowing write and I look forward to reading more of your work !
