Poetry And Wine

I had some ideas in my head

My thoughts I must commit to page

They don’t come easy at my age

-

With a book of ideas I’d do it somehow

A press of the mouse, I hit ‘Buy it now’

The parcel arrived at quarter past ten

I ripped it open and picked up my pen

-

Blank pages and leather bound

No inspiration could be found

$12.99 and postage free

But the words inside were up to me

-

My mind was blank I couldn’t think

I dropped my pen and reached for a drink

My creative juices began to sing

As the Pinot Grigio did its thing

-

With furrowed brow and ideas consuming

I wrote away with the deadline looming

The words were pretty, they seemed to rhyme

It was looking good, or was it just the wine?

-

My poem was finished I clicked on print

The light was flashing I was out of ink

The computer beeped I looked with a frown

The signal was dead, the router was down

-

My options were over, I’d missed the deadline

So I pulled out the cork and finished my wine

Then it dawned on me, that this situation

Would be my next poem and new inspiration

My Brother Poet John,

Very cute story.  Here's my take on it.

Pinot white, or Chardonnay

Merlot red, and Cabernet

All will work to bring a high

And make the pen hand start to fly

The mind gets loose, the thoughts then flow

The little poem starts then to grow

I toast to you my bottled friends

For all the brilliance your liquid sends

Peace and Love,

Larry xxx

Heartiest Congratulations John!
This is such a delightful read of missed chances and happenstance; of marooned and been swooned! It is always great to come across a comprehensive, witty and intelligent work of effortless rhyme! Well done! :)
