Stillness

Calmness and Serenity
Overcomes me
As I count the beats
To the rhythm, I move my feet

The wind howls outside
Blowing away my pride
The crashing of the tide
Drowns all my hopes that have died

The fires dances to the sound
Of my cries
and my solemn goodbyes
As I plead 'why?'

I sit down all alone
listening to the thunder strike
and the lightning flashes
almost childlike

My body shivers
After hearing the rain hit the river
And I stare into the clouds
With no heart to say this aloud

But I try in the stillness of the night
My conscience, I fight
I make friends with my doubt
And god knows how I try

I try
I'm sly
I lie
I cry

The butterflies
They flutter by
As I say Goodbye
The Fireflies
Mystify
The little sounds
Are a battle cry
As they fight
Only to die
